THE COLLEGE

The College of Health Sciences (CHS) is committed to developing world-class research and providing outstanding healthcare education. VinUni CHS received official recognition from ACGME International, a renowned international accrediting organization, for the high quality of its postgraduate medical education programs at institutional level. In March 2024, ACGME-I accredited 3 residency programs at CHS (Internal Medicine, General Surgery and Pediatrics), which recognized VinUni again, for the first time in Vietnam with 3 “program level” accreditation. About the Role

At the Vinmec–VinUni Institute of Immunology, we are looking for an Applied AI/ML Engineer with a strong background in Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Biotechnology. You will apply machine learning/AI to complex data - biological data, clinical and lifestyle metadata - and turn the results into working AI-assisted prototypes and applications.

This is a great fit for someone who enjoys real-world biomedical data, applied ML, and shipping something usable rather than stopping at the model.

Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, and preprocess structured and unstructured datasets for analysis and modeling
• Apply ML and AI methods to biomedical datasets (microbiome, flow cytometry, immune profiling, multi-omics,...).
• Work with scientists to frame ML problems: target variables, input features, validation strategy, and performance metrics.
• Own the full pipeline - data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, validation, and interpretation.
• Guard against common failure modes: overfitting, data leakage, confounding, batch effects, class imbalance, and poor generalizability.
• Build Minimum Viable Products (dashboards, reports, internal tools, and prototype apps) to demonstrate ML/AI results.
• Work closely with scientists, clinicians, and cross-functional teams on research and product development.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Machine Learning, Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.
• Strong proficiency in Python.
• Hands-on experience applying machine learning to real-world biomedical datasets.
• Solid understanding of supervised, unsupervised and deep learning methods.
• Experience with LLMs, AI agents, prompt design, and RAG.
• Experience with foundation models or representation learning applied to biological data.
• Able to work full-time onsite in Hanoi.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with microbiology or immune profiling.
• Experience with age prediction models, biological clocks, risk scores, or recommendation systems.
• Experience with model interpretability methods (SHAP, permutation importance, feature importance, partial dependence plots).
• Experience building reports and prototypes with Streamlit, Dash, Gradio, FastAPI, or Flask.
• Experience with structured databases for managing biomedical data, model outputs, and results.
• Experience in biotech, diagnostics, pharma, CROs, research institutes, health-tech, or biomedical AI.
