ABOUT THE POSITION
The Lab Coordinator will report to the Director of Pre-Clinical Medicine and Teaching Labs and Lab Coordinator on all aspects of the management and maintaining the operation of the teaching labs used for undergraduate programs.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Administrative Coordination:
- Maintain laboratory schedules in coordination with academic staff and timetabling teams.
- Track and update inventory records, equipment logs, and maintenance schedules.
- Assist in the documentation and preparation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk
assessments, and compliance reports. - Coordinate internal communication related to lab usage, access, and safety protocols.
2. Research Project Administrative Support:
- Assist in the administrative coordination of research projects conducted within the pre-clinical teaching laboratory facilities.
- Support the preparation, filing, and tracking of research-related documents, including project proposals, ethics or compliance documents, experimental records, progress reports, and internal approval forms.
- Maintain organized records of research project activities, timelines, equipment usage, consumable usage, and relevant correspondence.
- Support the organization of research meetings, project updates, training sessions, and documentation of meeting minutes when required.
- Assist in monitoring research project deadlines, deliverables, and reporting requirements as assigned by the supervisor.
3. Procurement and Inventory Management:
- Monitor stock levels of consumables, chemicals, instruments, and other lab resources.
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers to obtain quotations, place orders, and ensure timely delivery.
- Maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, invoices, and supplier
correspondence and ensure timely payment to vendors.
4. Laboratory Setup and Support:
- Assist in the preparation and setup of lab stations and equipment for practical teaching sessions
- Ensure availability and functionality of lab tools, models, and teaching aids before each session.
- Provide basic technical support during lab sessions and assist with troubleshooting equipment
issues.
5. Other miscellaneous, lab-related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in basic/biomedical science.
- At least one year of working in wet laboratory or related experience and/or training including academic experience.
- Be a team player with can-do attitude.
- Must be able to follow instructions and procedures pertaining to the task at hand.
- Must be familiar with Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ensures health and safety protocols are in place.
- Excellent verbal and written skills required.
