Role Overview:

The Research Impact and Engagement Manager at VinUniversity is responsible for maximizing the visibility, recognition, and societal impact of the university‘s research outputs. This role leads strategic initiatives to translate research findings into meaningful outcomes for communities, industry, and policy makers. The position involves developing and implementing strategies to track research impact, foster stakeholder engagement, and build productive partnerships that enhance VinUniversity‘s research reputation and influence both nationally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Research Impact Strategy & Implementation

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive research impact strategy aligned with VinUniversity‘s mission and goals.
  • Create frameworks to identify, measure, and enhance the academic, economic, and societal impacts of research activities.
  • Work with faculty to articulate the potential and actual impact of their research beyond academia.
  • Design impact pathways that guide researchers in planning for and achieving meaningful societal outcomes.

2. Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Development

  • Identify and engage key external stakeholders including industry partners, government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations.
  • Facilitate meaningful dialogue between researchers and potential end-users of research.
  • Establish and nurture strategic partnerships that can amplify research impact and provide pathways to implementation.
  • Organize events, workshops, and forums that bring together researchers and stakeholders to address shared challenges.

3. Knowledge Translation & Dissemination

  • Develop strategies to translate complex research findings into accessible formats for different audiences.
  • Work with researchers to create tailored communication materials including policy briefs, industry reports, and public-facing content.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to maximize media coverage and digital dissemination of research outcomes.
  • Identify appropriate channels and platforms to reach target audiences effectively.

4. Impact Measurement & Reporting

  • Establish metrics and methodologies to assess research impact across multiple dimensions.
  • Implement systems to track, document, and showcase the impacts of university research.
  • Collect and analyze evidence of impact through case studies, testimonials, and quantitative indicators.
  • Produce regular impact reports and success stories for internal and external stakeholders.

5. Research Commercialization Support

  • Work with researchers and the technology transfer office to identify research with commercial potential.
  • Support the development of commercialization strategies including patents, licenses, and spin-off companies.
  • Connect researchers with industry partners and investors interested in research commercialization.
  • Help navigate intellectual property considerations and commercialization pathways.

6. Policy Engagement & Influence

  • Develop strategies to increase the policy relevance and influence of university research.
  • Build relationships with policymakers and government officials to facilitate research uptake.
  • Organize policy dialogues and briefings to present research findings to decision-makers.
  • Monitor policy developments and identify opportunities for research to inform policy design.

7. Capacity Building & Training

  • Design and deliver training programs on research impact planning and stakeholder engagement.
  • Coach researchers on effective communication with non-academic audiences.
  • Develop resources and toolkits to help researchers maximize their impact potential.
  • Foster a culture of impact-oriented research across the university.

8. Community Outreach & Public Engagement

  • Coordinate public engagement initiatives that showcase research and its benefits to society.
  • Develop citizen science programs and community-based research partnerships.
  • Organize public lectures, exhibitions, and interactive events that make research accessible.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of public engagement activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master‘s degree in Science Communication, Knowledge Translation, Research Management, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in research impact assessment, knowledge exchange, or stakeholder engagement roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing research impact strategies.
  • Strong understanding of research environments and academic outputs across disciplines.
  • Experience in partnership development between academic institutions and external organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education or research institutions in Vietnam.
  • Background in successfully implementing knowledge translation or commercialization initiatives.
  • Experience in developing impact case studies or similar documentation of research outcomes.
  • Track record of building productive relationships between researchers and industry/government/community.
  • Experience with research assessment frameworks and impact evaluation methodologies.
