DESCRIPTION
- Service Learning is a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that address human and community needs, together with structured opportunities for reflection designed to achieve desired learning outcomes (Service-Learning Essentials, Jacoby 2014)
- Every student at VinUniversity is part of a service-learning project as part of their learning. This includes taking a course and participating in a relevant project.
- The community Service-Learning Teaching Assistant will work directly with Dr. Myles Lynch on all activities related to service learning at the University level. This means assisting with the Introduction to Service-Learning course, planning field trips around Hanoi, and helping work-study students on tasks.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Supervisor: Dr. Myles Liam Lynch, VinUniversity, College of Arts and Sciences
Topic: The Teaching Assistant will focus on assisting with all components of the community service-learning class, projects, and field experiences
- Primary Duty: Teaching Assistant
- Teaching assistant for 6 CSL class sections in the Fall and 6 CSL class sections in the Spring. Total 12 Sections throughout the academic year.
- Teaching Assistant for 4 sections of the Leadership Boot Camp (includes planning and coordination).
- Teaching Assistant for 2 CSL courses in the summer (tentative)
- Maintain CANVAS, course material systems, grading systems.
- Support faculty members in preparing for new terms (i.e., Order textbooks, purchasing course materials ...)
- Ability to go on 6 CSL field trips throughout the academic year – based on scheduling with Dr. Lynch and work study students.
- Supplementary Duties: Administrative
- Monitor and coordinate field trips & classroom assignments together with the work study students. This includes contacting the partners, keeping track of student lists (attendance), and booking the transportation.
- Supervise 2 work study students on implementing the CSL newsletter, QS rating support, and other CSL related activities (I.e. events, speakers).
- Help to coordinate and organize the annual leadership boot camp (I.e., scheduling and administrative duties).
- Gathers, enters, and/or updates data to maintain department records and databases, establishes and maintains files and records for CSL activities.
- Assist work study students to support College CSL events and initiatives.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Holds a M.A./M.S. in Education or related Social Sciences discipline (i.e., Psychology, Sociology, Outdoor Learning, Social Work, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Resources Management, Recreation Management)
- Proficiency in Canvas (educational management software) and assistance with grading / instruction
- Keep track of student progress on service-learning activities across the University
- Ability and desire to work with NGO’s, non-profits organizations, and impact of social issues – for example – great organization ability.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to translate from Vietnamese to English (also English to Vietnamese)
- Strong ability to work with students on projects and provide direction and clarity.
- Need to travel on occasion to service-learning sites around Hanoi.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
English is the language of teaching and communication at VinUniversity. For this role, the candidate need to have an excellent written and verbal communication skill in English. The minimum requirement is IELTS (Academic) with a score of at least 6.5 (or equivalent).
