OPPORTUNITY

VinUniversity is seeking a motivated, organized individual who is passionate about creating transformative learning experiences for students, faculty, teaching assistants, and staff. The Instructional Designer will work collaboratively with the other learning specialists in the Center for Educational Excellence (CEE) as well as faculty and teaching assistants to support effective learning design with a focus on digital and blended learning resources. This multifaceted role goes much beyond e-learning authoring and also includes instructional design support, educational technology support, pedagogical support, Canvas LMS upkeep and innovation, and administrative duties. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

REPORTING LINE: Reports to the Director of Teaching & Learning Excellence (within the Center for Educational Excellence)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (percentages indicate an approximate breakdown of the role):

Learning Experience Design & Pedagogical Support (50%)

  • Collaborate with faculty to design, develop, and implement innovative blended and online learning experiences aligned with pedagogical best practices
  • Create engaging multimedia content including videos and digital learning objects
  • Develop tutorials and training resources for faculty, teaching assistants, and students
  • Provide personalized consultations to faculty and TAs on pedagogy, e-learning design, and assessment design
  • Support faculty to design and deliver active and blended learning techniques, inclusive teaching practices, and student-centered pedagogies
  • Support the design, content creation, and delivery of a blended professional development program for faculty and teaching assistants
  • Contribute to community-building programming (such as workshops, Lunch and Learns, etc.) related to teaching excellence and innovation
  • Ensure all materials adhere to university branding, accessibility guidelines, and copyright

Educational Technology & Digital Learning (30%)

  • Serve as a Canvas LMS administrator and expert, providing support and solutions to faculty and teaching assistants
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement educational technology tools that enhance teaching and learning
  • Develop and implement evaluation frameworks to measure learning effectiveness, student engagement, and faculty satisfaction of digital initiatives
  • Create and curate teaching and learning resources for the university‘s teaching community
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in teaching and learning

Administrative Support (20%)

  • Assist with budgeting and purchasing processes
  • Manage communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain organized documentation and digital asset management systems
  • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives and logistics for the Center for Educational Excellence
  • Plan and execute educational symposiums and conferences for internal / external educators
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership within the Center for Educational Excellence

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Educational background and working experience
  • Bachelor‘s degree or higher in instructional design, graphic design, education, business administration, or a technology-related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in higher education.
  1. Technical skills
  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring, graphic design and multimedia authoring tools, particularly Canva and video editing software such as DaVinci Resolve.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, D2L, Moodle, or similar. Experience with Canvas is a strong asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite / Google suite. Ability to ethically and responsibly use generative AI tools is a strong asset.
  1. Instructional design and pedagogy
  • Experience in developing engaging multimedia content for educational purposes.
  • Understanding of active learning principles and their application in higher education.
  • Ability to apply instructional design principles to create effective learning materials.
  • Understanding of best practices in educational content creation, including accessibility.
  1. Administrative and organizational skills
  • Experience in strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Proven ability to plan and execute events or workshops.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing documents and reports.
  1. Communication and interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, teaching assistants, and other stakeholders. Experience collaborating with faculty within an international university is a strong asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships across various departments.
  • Sensitivity to cultural differences and ability to work in a diverse international environment.
