ABOUT THE POSITION

The Institute of 3D Technology in Medicine (VI3D) is being established at VinUniversity on the foundation of the VinUni 3D Technology in Medicine Center (3D Lab), working closely with Vinmec Healthcare System. Since 2022 the 3D Lab has delivered more than 1,300 personalized cases for 18 hospitals, including patient-specific surgical instruments, anatomical models, cranial implant molds and customized titanium implants, under a quality management system certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485. 3D technology in medicine is listed among Vietnam‘s national strategic technologies, and VI3D is set to deliver national strategic technology tasks on personalized 3D-printed medical devices under the Ministry of Health for 2026–2030, spanning design, polymer and metal additive manufacturing, clinical trials, national standards and commercialization.

The Engineer runs VI3D‘s additive manufacturing equipment and is responsible for the technical quality of every build, from build preparation to finished, inspected parts. The Institute has two (2) positions: one in the Polymer 3D Printing Technology Department (vat photopolymerization and PolyJet), reporting to its Head, and one in the Metal 3D Printing Technology Department (laser powder bed fusion, LPBF/SLM), reporting to its Head. Production schedules, product priorities and final technical approval remain with the Head of each Department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build preparation: Orient, nest and support parts in build preparation software within validated parameters; prepare machines, materials, build plates and shielding gas as required by the process.
• Machine operation: Run and monitor builds according to the schedule, including process logs and, for metal, oxygen level; unpack builds safely.
• Post-processing: For polymer: wash, UV-cure, remove supports and finish parts. For metal: remove parts and supports, cut, grind, machine, polish and clean parts, and load them for heat treatment according to instructions.
• Materials and powder: Manage resins and powders by lot; sieve and store metal powder under the powder management procedure; record material and powder usage in the case management system.
• Quality and test specimens: Inspect parts against design files; build and prepare test specimens with metal jobs; diagnose defects and correct them within validated ranges; support process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) and the ASTM qualification program for Ti-6Al-4V Grade 23.
• Records and traceability: Keep build records and machine logs traceable to case, material lot and build.
• Maintenance and safety: Carry out routine maintenance of print heads, resin tanks, filters and recoater blades; follow resin handling, metal powder safety, explosion protection and PPE rules.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

1. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor‘s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Materials, Metallurgical, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering or a related field.
• At least three (3) years of experience operating industrial 3D printers, metal additive manufacturing, CNC or precision machining equipment is preferred; fresh graduates with relevant training will be considered.
• Vendor training on PolyJet, SLA or metal powder bed fusion systems is an advantage.

1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Understanding of vat photopolymerization, material jetting and metal powder bed fusion processes and their post-processing.
• Familiarity with ISO 10993 for patient-contact polymer parts and with ASTM F2924, ASTM F3001 and ISO/ASTM 52904 (TCVN 14308:2025) for titanium parts; production records under ISO 13485.
• Skill with machining, finishing and measuring instruments; systematic troubleshooting under surgery deadlines.
• Ability to read standards, equipment manuals and technical documents in English.
