ABOUT THE POSITION
The Product & Technology Transfer Officer supports VinUniversity researchers and venture teams in translating research and early-stage ideas into validated products, protected intellectual property, and commercially viable partnerships. The role combines hands-on product development with technology assessment, commercialization coordination, and industry engagement across the Entrepreneurship Lab (E-Lab) and Research Management Office (RMO).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Development & Venture Acceleration
- Guide student and faculty teams through product sprints, customer discovery, scope definition, prototyping, and MVP validation using appropriate AI, no-code, and technical tools.
- Mobilize engineering students, mentors, laboratories, clinical experts, and external specialists to address technical gaps and accelerate product development.
- Support early-stage spin-offs and startups by connecting teams with incubation, funding, mentorship, and venture-creation resources.
Technology Assessment, IP & Commercialization
- Screen research outputs and invention disclosures; conduct initial assessments of technology readiness, novelty, market applications, and suitable commercialization pathways, including licensing, co-development, and spin-off creation.
- Support patent and IP landscape reviews, invention disclosure intake, IP registration, and guidance on protection, publication timing, and commercialization readiness.
- Coordinate NDAs, MTAs, licensing documentation, approvals, and related processes with the Research Management Office, Legal, Finance, and other relevant units.
Technology Transfer & Industry Engagement
- Prepare technical summaries, demonstrations, and commercialization materials for industry partners, investors, evaluators, and non-technical decision-makers.
- Identify potential licensing and co-development opportunities, maintain relationships with industry and innovation partners, and coordinate technical scoping, deliverables, and follow-up activities.
- Track technology transfer, licensing, startup formation, and commercialization agreements through completion.
Portfolio Management, Systems & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records and dashboards for the IP portfolio, technology pipeline, startup projects, partner engagements, commercialization milestones, and impact indicators.
- Build and improve E-Lab/RMO operating tools and automate recurring workflows, including application screening, mentor matching, CRM, KPI tracking, and reporting.
- Prepare regular and ad hoc reports on innovation outputs, progress, risks, and recommended next steps.
Governance, Capacity Building & Program Support
- Ensure activities comply with institutional IP policies, funding requirements, contractual obligations, and approval processes.
- Develop practical resources and support training for faculty, researchers, and students on product development, IP, technology transfer, and commercialization.
- Contribute to E-Lab programs and events, including workshops, mentoring, technical judging, demo days, and other duties assigned by the E-Lab Manager.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor‘s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, technology, product development, innovation, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience developing and launching products, prototypes, or MVPs for real users or customers, preferably in a startup, accelerator, venture builder, research, or technology-transfer environment.
- Experience assessing technologies, conducting technical or commercial due diligence, or supporting IP, licensing, spin-offs, and industry collaboration is highly desirable.
- Experience working with university researchers, deep-tech projects, or Vietnam’s technology and innovation ecosystem is an advantage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong technical understanding, preferably in software, AI, or engineering, with the ability to interpret research and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Practical knowledge of product discovery, MVP scoping, prototyping, business models, customer validation, and commercialization pathways.
- Working knowledge of IP and technology-transfer processes, including patent landscaping, invention disclosures, licensing, NDAs, and MTAs.
- Strong project management, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Comfort working in an entrepreneurial, fast-changing environment and mobilizing internal and external expertise when needed.
